Rise of the Sanskrit Education Department

Sanskrit is the most ancient language in the world, and its literature is extremely rich compared to other languages. From a linguistic perspective, it is a highly developed language, and knowledge of Sanskrit makes it easier to learn any language in the world. With this noble resolution and lofty intent, a separate Sanskrit Education Department has been established in the Devbhoomi (land of the gods) state of Uttarakhand for the proper development of the divine language Sanskrit.

As a result of the formation of the Sanskrit Education Department, approval has been granted for the Directorate of Sanskrit Education with the aim of planning, operating, supervising, inspecting, and monitoring Sanskrit education throughout the state, and establishing coordination among its various components. The department has also established a council to manage integrated Sanskrit education from the Prathama (primary) to Acharya (postgraduate) levels, including educational training and conducting Sanskrit examinations.

To ensure the effective management and supervision of Sanskrit education, posts for Assistant Directors of Sanskrit Education have been created at the district level. Additionally, the Uttarakhand Sanskrit University in Haridwar has been established to grant high-level affiliations to Sanskrit institutions and to preserve and promote Sanskrit literature.

To collect and scientifically preserve India’s invaluable heritage of Sanskrit manuscripts and inscriptions, the Uttarakhand Sanskrit Academy has been founded.

Currently, 103 Sanskrit schools and colleges are operational in the state, including 46 colleges (up to the Shastri/Acharya level), 56 schools up to the Uttar Madhyama (intermediate) level, one school at the Poorva Madhyama (junior) level, and one at the Pancham (class 5) level.
